Nick is PUSH511's November CrossFit Member of the Month!
Nick has been a member of PUSH511 for nearly one year. He regularly attends our group CrossFit and Bootcamp classes! Here's why the PUSH team loves having Nick in class... guess which was submitted by his wife, Coach Katherine!
Ever since I worked with Nick- I could tell he was built to do well with CrossFit workouts. Coachable and fun to have in classes- he crushes every workout he does. It’s fun to see how well he’s been moving. Excited to see what he’ll do and he hasn’t even had a year yet with us yet.
Nick has been such a great addition to our community! He is open and receptive to feedback with movements and does so with such a positive attitude. He enjoys tips on how he can improve his mobility and range of motion and I know it won’t be long before all those pieces fall into place. He also just works hard and tackles every workout with energy and enthusiasm!
I've known for a long time that Nick would love CrossFit, so this is my public opportunity to say, "I told you so!" Jokes aside, and with only a little bit of bias, Nick has been super consistent since joining Push earlier this year and has fit right in with the PUSH community, even though he is sadly dogless. He has somehow gotten even better at bodyweight movements while improving his weightlifting and learning more technical gymnastics. If he keeps up this effort, he may stand a chance at being almost as fit as his wife.
When did you start CrossFit? I drank the Kool-aid in January 2024.
What's your fitness background? Quite a variety, I've done a mix of weight training since I was 18, some long-distance running, and was an avid rock climber for over two decades.
What’s your favorite CrossFit movement? Pull-ups
What’s your least favorite movement? Overhead squats (limited mobility because of all those pull-ups)
What do you do for work? I'm just another one of those Government lackeys! I've been working for the Army as a civilian for over 17 years, currently a Deputy Product Director for a $7.9B contract used by the Army and other services.
Tell us a little bit about yourself and your family. Born and raised in central New Jersey where my parents still reside. I have a younger sister who lives with her husband and my nephew (in the picture) in the Bay area. I moved down to Maryland in 2010 when the Government shut down the Army installation in NJ where I started and eventually ended up in Baltimore where I met Katherine and by association her (our) cat Charlie.
Tell us something we don’t know about you! I'm an Eagle Scout!
How has CrossFit affected your life outside the gym? It's helped me keep a routine and set boundaries on my work/life balance. I also talk about CrossFit more!
What do you enjoy most about PUSH? The coaches, the other athletes, the facility being so well maintained, there is a lot to enjoy and appreciate!
What tips would you offer someone who is just getting started with working out? Pace yourself! Being sore and in pain during recovery can really discourage your return to the gym.
What's your favorite song to work out to? Recently it's been Push by Skrillex (very fitting)
What's your favorite restaurant? The Food Market
Who's your hero (real or fictional)? My Uncle, although he passed about 20 years ago. He inspired me to live my life to the fullest and always be happy.
What does your frequently used emoji tab look like?
Words to live by or favorite quote? "Comparison is the thief of happiness."
What's your favorite travel spot? I went to Italy this year and it was pretty amazing. Runners up, Germany and South Korea.
If you could win an Olympic gold medal for any sport, real or fake, what would it be? Competitive first-person shooter video games.
What's your hidden talent? I have a mental schedule of house chores, car chores, and anything else chores, that I just know when things need to be done. I think I inherited it from my father and it baffles Katherine.
What are your top five favorite movies?
